Kelsey Moores Finishes 8th at All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio For the first time in the four-year history of the Kiwanis Club of Hopkinsville's Soap Box Derby, a local winner made it to the championship round at the 72nd All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio, as Kelsey Moores finished 8th overall in the stock division. Moores won her first three heats in Akron to advance to the championship round with nine other racers. She finished third in her fourth heat of the day (championship round). Moores then moved on to face-off against the other two third-place finishers (from the two other heat brackets) for 7th, 8th and 9th place. Moores came in second in this heat to finish 8th overall out of 135 stock division racers. Hopkinsville had two other racers participate in the derby on Saturday, July 25, as Raleigh Jones, local super stock champion, and Sydney Leach, local masters champion, lost their first round heats in Akron. Moores was sponsored locally by BB&T while Raleigh Jones was sponsored by Jones Brothers Towing & Wrecker Service. Leach was sponsored by the Spirit of Bowling Green. Moores' father, Todd, is the newest member of the Hopkinsville Kiwanis Club, while Jones' uncle, Tony, is a long-time Kiwanian and past president.
